Depending on how TikTok is used, it can fall under multiple levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. For example, if students are watching a how-to video on TikTok, then they are likely completing an activity that is in the remembering or understanding level. However, if they are using TikTok to view someone’s thoughts or opinions and are asked to have a discussion about the contents of the video, then they are likely completing an activity that is in the analyzing or evaluating levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Student may even participate in activities that fall under the applying or creating level if they are asked to create their own TikTok videos.
Type of Learning Experience:
TikTok can be used to facilitate a variety of learning experiences. For example, TikTok can be used as a resource for virtual field trips. Students can “visit” different places by watching TikToks as a way to experience what life is like in the places that students are “visiting”. Another learning experience that TikTok can provide is demonstrations. Students can watch demonstrations of experiments on TikTok. TikTok can also serve as educational “television” if students are watching educational content on TikTok.
Integration Techniques:
As mentioned above, one way that TikTok can be used in the classroom is as a resource for students to learn new things from. For example, students may view how-to videos to gain a better understanding of how to complete a certain task. Students may also use TikTok to complete virtual field trips as a way to gain a better understanding of peoples’ lives in other countries or areas of the world. Another way that TikTok can be used is as a way for students to create their own videos. Teachers can create assignments where students are given a topic to post about. Then, students can work either individually or in small groups to create a TikTok for that topic.
